I’m really happy to have found a website like this. I just started Longboarding this summer actually. My deck is a Riviera and my wheels are 78mm Divine’s.
The other day, I went down a hill and got my first taste of the speed wobbles! I fell and barely hurt myself. Which was surprising considering I wasn’t wearing any gear besides a helmet.
I’m more of a cruiser I think, but one thing scares me.
It’s silly, but since that fall, I can tell I am more tense even on a small hill. And it feels as though I can’t carve fast enough to slow down. I go too wide.
Of course, I just started, so I shouldn’t be too hard on myself, but right now I can’t even imagine going down a good hill without freaking out.
Do you think my trucks are too tight? Or maybe am I not leaning enough on my front and back foot to make a good smooth carve?
Those speed wobbles haunt me. And even if I look geeky, I think you’ve convinced me to get knee and elbow pads, at least for now. Might help that fear also, right?
How long did it take for you to get comfortable on your Longboard? like to cruise in real life.
Thanks for your comments and tips, if any,
I would definitely invest in some good protection gear. That will ease your mind and make you more comfortable, and don’t worry, you won’t look geeky! As far as your trucks go, try loosening them to see if you get a better “feel” and are more comfortable. To get comfortable on a longboard takes lots of practice, so with each individual it just depends on how much time you are willing to spend to get yourself to that point.
Thanks for commenting,
I have been Longboarding for about three months now and I have started to ride hills near my house, I am still very fearfull of big hills, I am not used to riding hills, or anything for that matter and I want to try some bigger hills but I can’t really decide if I have the balls to do larger hills. I haven’t tried carving yet but I will keep it in mind.
I also want to try to learn how to slide and need some tips
I have found your website is really going to help me with my Longboarding
So i have had a longboard for about five years. When i first got it, my brother put together the components, and im not sure how well he put it together… Ive been wanting to buy some new trucks, wheels, and bearings. But i have some questions. What are good brands? Are each parts compatible for every longboard? Good websites to buy from? And what is a reasonable price range? Thanks i really appreciate it!!!
Can you make a blog post or page about braking techniques/sliding?
